What is a mikveh guide?
Mikveh Guides facilitate the immersion process, from first contact at the mikveh through preparation, immersion and post-immersion reflection. They offer Jews or those becoming Jewish a personal and spiritual experience to recognize and honor life’s transitions.
Position open to women and men from all walks of Jewish life; no mikveh experience necessary though any mikveh experience is welcomed.
Participation in 2 day “Guide My Steps” training required (see below)
Trip to a mikveh to observe a Mikveh Guide
Commitment of ~ 3 volunteer hours/month
Application Process
- Complete the online application form. Applications are due by Friday, March 15, 2013
- Participate in a group interview. Interviews will take place during the first two weeks of April.
- All applicants will be notified by April 28th.
“Guide My Steps” Training
Volunteer guides will participate in “Guide My Steps,” a curriculum created by Mayyim Hayyim Community Mikveh in Newton, MA. The sessions will cover topics including traditional and alternative uses of mikveh, mikveh sensitivity, healing, and the logistics of facilitating immersions in a mikveh.
These sessions will take place at the JCC Manhattan on Sunday, May 19th, 1-6pm and Sunday, June 2nd, 1-6pm.
